The Institute of Informatics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (UISAV) has launched a new research project, Research and Development of Selected Innovative Technologies for the Wildfire Management Platform (SILVANUS-SK). The project is supported under the call 09I01-03-V04 – Matching Grants for Funding Obtained under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe Programmes, financed through the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic (Component 9, Investment 1) and implemented by the Research Agency.
Project title: Research and Development of Selected Innovative Technologies for the Wildfire Management Platform
Acronym: SILVANUS-SK
Project code: 09I01-03-V04-00107
Programme: Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic – Matching Grants for Funding Obtained under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe Programmes (09I01-03-V04)
Recovery and Resilience Facility funds: €199,955.29
Project duration: January 2025 – June 2026 (18 months)
Project leader: Ing. Zoltán Balogh, PhD.
The project builds on the international SILVANUS project (Integrated Technological and Information Platform for Wildfire Management, CORDIS 101037247), funded under the Horizon 2020 programme. As one of 49 partners from Europe, Brazil, Indonesia and Australia, UISAV develops technologies for wildfire prevention and detection and post-fire forest restoration, and serves as the main technology partner for the Slovak pilot.
SILVANUS-SK will further develop new concepts for selected components developed at the Institute and adapt them to the conditions of Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The project focuses not only on wildfires, but also on other hazards such as floods, windstorms and severe snow events.
As part of the project, we plan to extend the mobile application for citizen engagement by adding an interactive map of warnings and reports, new data layers (e.g. evacuation routes and weather developments), and an overview of standard procedures for emergencies and first aid in Slovak and Czech. The content under development will be consulted with fire and rescue services.
The EmerPoll platform, designed to collect and aggregate real-time data from large numbers of users, will be enhanced in terms of scalability and secure access to geospatial data. In the field of swarm robotics, in cooperation with Airvolute s.r.o., we will develop methods for the autonomous coordination of drone swarms, including onboard data processing and real-time transmission of data from drones in flight to the platform.
Finally, the developed components will be integrated and experimentally validated, and the new concepts will be presented to users in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic under Project No. 09I01-03-V04-00107.
